You can start your online store by adding a Store widget to your project. Next, you can fill your catalog with products and manage their data (check out our article about managing products to learn more on the matter).

In a big multi-brand catalog, products have numerous attributes. With their help, you can specify additional info about catalog items and hide certain details (e.g., net cost) that you prefer not to show to your customers.

Keeping private information about products

Some product specifications are meant for internal purposes (e.g., cost, manufacturer’s codes, etc.). Hidden product attributes can help you keep this information in the Store Manager without publishing it for users.

To make any attribute a hidden one:

  1. From your Store Manager, go to Settings Product Types.
  2. Choose the attribute type.
  3. Select Do not show.

Now, this attribute’s value is visible in your Store Manager only.

Searching products by attributes

Store owners need to provide easy inventory navigation in multi-brand catalogs. Attributes enable product filtering that allows visitors to refine searches by brand, price, color, or size. You can read about managing product options such as color or size in our article.

If you want to add a filtered search to your online store, you need to fill in the attribute values. Don’t forget to use the same wording for attribute values everywhere in the catalog to avoid excluding products from the search results.

Creating product attributes

Every product type has two global attributes (UPC, or Universal Product Code, and Brand) and two empty fields for custom attributes by default. It’s possible to change their titles and choose whether to show them in the product details or not.

Note:

You can see additional info by hovering over the question mark [?] icon.

You can specify extra product details in the empty fields. To enter additional fields, you can click Add New.

You can also drag and drop the fields to change the order of displaying attributes.

Remember to save your work once you finish setting up the attribute list. Now, you can fill in attribute values and assign product types. Find more information about product types in our Managing Product Types article.

Assigning types and attributes

To define a product type and enter values for attributes, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Catalog Products from your Store Manager.
  2. Click on a product to edit its details.
  3. Switch to the Attributes tab.
  4. Press Change type to select the required type of product.
  5. Fill in the attribute values.
  6. Click Save.
