Build a Boxmode website from scratch

With Boxmode, you can create a website in two different ways: either select a template and customize it with a drag and drop editor or start with a blank theme and build your site block by block using widgets. 

Let’s take a closer look at the latter option. Here’s how you create a simple website from scratch.

1. Apply the blank template:

In the template selection menu, choose “Blank”. 

Note: The template menu is displayed once you access the Boxmode editor for the first time or when you start a new project in your Dashboard.

2. Add a header:

• Click the “+” icon in the left sidebar when in the editor;
• Select “Header” in the list of the available widget categories;
• To add the widget, simply drag it to the canvas (the widget selection menu will automatically disappear) and drop it wherever you need it (the drop area will be highlighted).

Note: To cancel the process, press “Esc” on your keyboard while dragging the widget.

When the header is deployed, you can customize it using the drag and drop interface. Simply click on any widget’s element to call out additional controls and hit the “Edit” button. You can then adjust the parameters of your header the way you want. 

3. Add a slideshow:

• Click the “+” icon in the left sidebar when in the editor;
• Choose “Slideshow” and pick a preferred widget template;
• To add the widget, simply drag it to the canvas (the widget selection menu will automatically disappear) and drop it wherever you need it (the drop area will be highlighted).

Note: To cancel the process, press “Esc” on your keyboard while dragging the widget.

Slideshow editing is carried out in the same way as editing other types of widgets (although its customization options are different). 

4. Publish the website

You can go on and add more widgets (or pages) to expand your site, but you can also publish it right away and get back to editing it later. 

To launch your website online, click the “Publish” button in the top right corner of the screen. If you are not logged in to Boxmode, you will be asked to do so or create a new account. If you are signed in, you will need to select a domain on which your site will be published.

There you go! Once you pick a domain name, your new website will immediately go live. You can get back to editing the project anytime by accessing it from your Dashboard.
